How one nightclub group with four locations turned into an established restaurant group with 13 in just over a year

What began as a nightclub venture has, in 16 months, morphed into a bona fide restaurant group thanks to the pandemic. It encompasses soon-to-be 14 restaurants in its portfolio throughout Philadelphia, mainly in the Northern Liberties neighborhood.

Glu Hospitality and Sushi Expert Kevin Yanaga Open Izakaya by Yanaga in Philadelphia

"I am proud to team up with Glu Hospitality for my very first restaurant," says Yanaga. "The restaurant will feature two separate and unique concepts under the same roof. Izakaya by Yanaga will offer a more casual dining and bar experience for locals, catering to the surrounding neighborhood and repeat customers. When it is ready, Omakase will offer a higher end dining experience that is more upscale, personalized and intimate. There will be a higher price point with expanded sake and Japanese scotch and whiskey program, plus exclusive cocktails paired with the offerings."

Great ‘new’ restaurants and bars to take your out-of-town friends who haven’t been to Philly for a while

“The “it” neighborhood for nightlife at the moment is Northern Liberties. Since your friends have last been there, the Second Street corridor has seen the openings of Añejo (Mexican), SET NoLibs (Asian fusion), and the massive Figo, an Italian bar/restaurant with indoor/outdoor seating for 250-plus and a cocktail list that includes spiked sodas and coffees — all with ties to Glu Hospitality’s nearby Vesper Day Club, Germantown Garden and Germantown Garden Grille (the restaurants with the dining igloos). “

These Philadelphia bars and restaurants have decked their halls -

“The new Figo Ristorante has added igloos that look more like geodesic domes than the boxy creations that appeared last winter on the city sidewalks and streets. Figo’s, which seat four to six people, are equipped with heat. Owner Glu Hospitality is also building a giant outdoor Christmas bar and enclosing the entire outdoor covered cocktail garden and adding outdoor heaters.”
